  • Bic corporate foundation recognized in new Netflix documentary

Rede Nami, an education-focused NGO supported by the BIC Corporate Foundation, is featured in the Netflix documentary On Est Ensemble. The film follows French social entrepreneur Stephane de Freitas on his journey to meet social change agents worldwide, introducing viewers to Rede Nami founder Panmela Castro and the organization’s work in Brazil to educate and empower women.

The BIC Corporate Foundation launched a partnership with the Rio de Janeiro-based NGO in 2020. With funding from the Foundation, Rede Nami’s AfroGrafiteiras program allows women from underserved areas to complete a six-month leadership training program focused on personal development through art. The program seeks to empower and reduce rates of violence against women, especially femicide. Brazil currently ranks fifth in the world in cases of femicide, with 70% of these crimes committed against Afro-Brazilian women.

As a result of this partnership, BIC was also recognized in the new Netflix film, receiving a special mention in the end credits for its support of Rede Nami and AfroGrafiteiras.
