ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NGO Name: Le sens de l'école - Location: France
Educational inequalities are particularly pronounced during key transition periods, such as the move from elementary school to middle school. The most vulnerable students may feel that they do not belong at school, believe their abilities are fixed, or struggle to understand the purpose and value of learning.
These perceptions can become major barriers to academic success. It is therefore essential to develop approaches that strengthen students’ confidence, motivation, and well-being so they can fully engage in their learning journey and build a positive relationship with school.
The project “Workshops – The Meaning of School” aims to reduce educational inequalities and prevent school dropout by supporting children from underserved communities. Drawing on educational research, the program helps students transform limiting beliefs into positive learning mindsets.
The workshops primarily support students in priority education districts during the critical transition from elementary school to middle school. They focus on strengthening three key drivers of academic success: a sense of belonging at school, a growth mindset that encourages students to believe they can improve through effort and learning, and a stronger sense of purpose for learning.
The project also includes training sessions for teachers, providing them with practical tools to foster student motivation, engagement, and well-being on a daily basis. By working with both students and educators, “The Meaning of School” helps create more inclusive, supportive, and empowering learning environments where every child can thrive.
