Labo des Histoires: Writing Workshops

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NGO Name: Labo des Histoires  -  Location: France

THE CHALLENGE

French students often face difficulties to write while the skill is important for social and economic integration; most territories lack of structures to develop writing skills.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project offers free writing workshops to children and youth up to 25yo in various territories of Metropolitan and Overseas France. These workshops are led by professionals in various arts linked to writing, such as: fiction & non-fiction novels, song writing, texts and dialogues for comics, film scripts, among others.

2019, Ocean diaries: children & youngsters contributed to the writing of the ""Ocean's Diary"", inspired by the journeys of two renowned sailors.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

She started by saying she doesn't feel like writing, her jacket up to her chin; like an armor. Then she took out her smartphone: "I don't write with a pen, I write on my phone." I said: "it's the same thing. All I care about in the end is that you write." After an hour, I saw her struggling with a piece of paper. I asked her what she was up to. She answered: "it's for you, sir. I write down". I waited a little bit. I asked her to read, and she read it all at once without breathing and surprised everybody in the room.
