THE CHALLENGE

In a world where digital media plays an increasingly important role in children's daily lives, it is essential to equip them with the skills needed to navigate information responsibly and confidently. From an early age, children are exposed to a wide range of content, conflicting viewpoints, and sometimes misinformation, without always having the critical thinking skills needed to evaluate what they see and hear.

There is therefore a growing need for age-appropriate educational programs that strengthen media literacy, critical thinking, and informed decision-making. Special attention must be given to children from underserved communities to ensure that every child has access to the same opportunities for learning and development.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project “Media Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills for Childrenaims to deliver structured, engaging, and age-appropriate learning experiences for children ages 9 to 12 from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Its goal is to help children better understand media, evaluate information, and develop critical thinking skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

The program begins with a pilot phase implemented in both private and state-funded schools to test, refine, and strengthen the learning materials. It also includes teacher training, recognizing educators as key drivers of long-term and scalable impact.

Over time, the initiative is designed to expand from after-school activities into broader school-wide implementation. A strong emphasis is placed on non-fee-paying schools to ensure equitable access for children from less advantaged backgrounds. The project also includes ongoing monitoring and evaluation to measure outcomes and maximize its impact on every participating child.
