THE CHALLENGE

Nigeria has one of the world's youngest populations, creating enormous potential for innovation and economic growth. However, many young people aged 16 to 25, particularly those living in low-income and informal communities, remain disconnected from quality education and pathways to employment. Limited access to vocational training, digital skills, mentorship, and entrepreneurship opportunities prevents many from developing the capabilities needed to succeed in today's rapidly changing economy.

For vulnerable adolescents, the transition from education to employment is often uncertain. Without practical skills, creative confidence, or access to support networks, many face long-term unemployment or precarious informal work. Addressing these challenges requires holistic programs that combine skills development with creativity, innovation, and real-world learning experiences.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Slum2School Enterprise Development & Innovation Lab empowers vulnerable adolescents and young adults from underserved communities by providing vocational, creative, digital, and entrepreneurial training that prepares them for sustainable livelihoods. The programme supports participants aged 16–25 through a structured nine-month journey combining technical training, mentorship, apprenticeship opportunities, enterprise development, and innovation.

Beyond teaching practical, market-relevant skills, the programme encourages participants to develop creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and entrepreneurial mindsets. Learners take part in innovation challenges, business development workshops, and real-world projects that help transform ideas into viable products, services, and businesses. Upon completing the programme, participants receive continued support through mentorship, starter kits, and market linkages to help them transition into employment, self-employment, or further entrepreneurial opportunities.
