Rise 4 Kids: Culture a Treasure Island

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NGO Name: Rise 4 Kids  -  Location: Belgium

THE CHALLENGE

In Belgium, 513,000 children live below the poverty line (UNICEF, 2021), facing the challenge of breaking the cycle of poverty. Research by the OECD in 2018 found that 30 to 40% of children born into poverty remain in poverty as adults, perpetuating inequality. While education and cultural access are crucial to reducing poverty, promoting gender equality, and upholding fundamental human rights (OECD, 2018), these children also require opportunities to thrive beyond their families. Participation in sports, recreation, cultural, and artistic activities allows them to expand their horizons, avoid social exclusion, and discover their potential. Without these opportunities, children remain at risk of limited social mobility and lost potential.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Aligned with the NGO's education pillar, the Culture: A Treasure Island initiative provides children with the opportunity to explore new horizons through creative activities, including music, theater, sports, and the arts.   This project introduces children to new forms of expression and a world beyond their cultural environment, helping them break free from the cycle of poverty.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

In a world where solidarity and mutual aid are more necessary than ever, our establishment, which focuses on the problems of young people suffering from moderate or severe mental retardation, learning disabilities, and coming from underprivileged social backgrounds, has had the great good fortune to cross the path of the ASBL Rise for Kids, through its President, Mrs. Reem Boustany. Rise for Kids stands out unequivocally for its commitment to children in difficulty.
