Enactus UK: Individual Topic Competition on Access to Quality Education

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NGO Name: Enactus UK  -  Location: UK & IRE

THE CHALLENGE

Access to education for the poorest populations is one of the 17 sustainable development goals defined by the UN. In 2015, an estimated 121 million children worldwide were deprived of the right to education and nearly 800 million adults lack basic reading and writing skills. The partnership between Enactus UK & BIC UK & IRE means we can jointly impact more young people and improve their access to education while demonstrating the responsible contribution of BIC and its employees.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

University students propose social business projects tackling the challenges of SDG #4 - Access to Quality Education. They receive guidance & mentorship from BIC UK team members to develop their projects.
The projects compete through 3 types of events: project pitches at BIC UK & IRE, participation in the UK Regional Competition Events, participation in the National Expo Event (final national competition).

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

I’m Luisa and I go to Francis Combe Academy. I struggled a lot with my self-confidence. I’d always put myself down during my lessons, I’d make comments that I can’t do it and I can’t focus as much. Going through the programme has made me realise that you can do it. If you think that you’re not good enough, then you’ll be nothing; if you do nothing, then you’ll have nothing to go on. But if you put effort, you can get somewhere. You can use it as a stepping stone and make your way up to the top.
