ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NGO Name: Children of the Mekong - Location: Philippines
Poor and suffering children can be models of responsibility for their countries. In the Island of Negros, most of youth live in their parent’s house which is, most of time, located in remote area.
These youth lack knowledge about company behavior, do not have professional network and do not have access to universities in the city (too expensive).
The center welcomes youngsters living in extreme poverty situation in the isolated countryside areas, who seek to earn a university degree. They provide them with the basic and urgent need of education to support their social inclusion and professional insertion, ensuring a better quality of life. The Center lodges students and accompanies them throughout their 4-year university career with a supervising team: a trained overseas volunteer, a social worker and a caretaker who takes the parenting role.
