Seletti x BIC Maison&Objet 2026
15-JAN-2026 – Seletti, the Italian design brand known worldwide for its original style and its figurative, unconventional approach, announces its participation in the January 2026 edition of Maison&Objet with a special collaboration with BIC, the brand that revolutionized the way we write thanks to its iconic, universally accessible ballpoint pen, BIC Cristal.
Just in time to close the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the BIC Cristal pen, Seletti launches BIC Lamp, a lamp designed by Mario Paroli that faithfully reproduces the aesthetics of the historic and iconic model, transforming the famous ballpoint pen for the first time into a true design object at larger scale.
BIC Lamp reinterprets the legendary BIC Cristal at a 12:1 scale in its three most recognizable versions - classic black, blue, and red - as a floor lamp, pendant light, or wall sconce. Made with materials chosen to evoke the original with the utmost precision, while guaranteeing optimal lighting performance, this LED lamp celebrates—through Seletti’s signature pop sensitivity—one of the most widespread and beloved objects in the world. From schoolchildren learning to write to adults jotting down notes or artists turning to it for its precision and versatility, this BIC pen has always been a staple in every home and every office across the globe. Its simple yet functional design has made it a cult object, earning a place in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
With BIC Lamp, Seletti celebrates this simple yet epoch-making invention, bringing the BIC Cristal into homes in a new guise. A design object capable of renewing the meaning and function of the ballpoint pen while enhancing its simplicity, both essential and ingenious. With this project, the brand continues its path of overturning everyday aesthetics through new functions, unexpected proportions, and reimagined forms, reaffirming its vision of design as a field of continuous discovery.
Presenting the BIC Lamp for the first time at Maison&Objet—one of the world’s most important international fairs in the industry, where the major trends and innovations in design, furniture, decoration, and lifestyle are showcased—also concludes the celebrations of BIC Cristal‘s 75th anniversary and honors the origins of the company, which was founded just outside Paris thanks to the dedication and ingenuity of Marcel Bich.
“The launch of the BIC Lamp at Maison&Objet 2026 represents a very special moment for us. At Seletti, we have always played with the concept of memory-driven design, placing people’s personal memories at the center of the objects we create,” says Stefano Seletti, the brand’s art director. “With BIC Lamp, we transform a universally and instantly recognizable shape that lives in everyone’s memory, into something completely new. This project ties into our way of approaching lighting design, with innovative and unconventional concepts. The BIC Lamp is the perfect example of how an icon can be reborn to illuminate our homes and our memories.”
BIC’s philosophy to offer everyday essentials that are affordable, long-lasting, simple and safe to use, still guides the brand after more than eighty years. The unparalleled success of the BIC Cristal pen, of which more than 120 billion units have been sold across the world since its creation in 1950, has turned it into an iconic object of our everyday lives, which echoes perfectly with Seletti’s brand positioning.
“BIC has always inspired artists and is honored to have inspired Seletti. Turning this everyday object into a larger-than-life lamp shows the impact this simple ballpoint pen, created in 1950, has had on collective imagination.” Explains David Cabero, General Manager for Stationery at BIC.
